PRESS: Russia can join international tax data sharing pact in May

MOSCOW, Apr 28 (PRIME) -- After the publication of the Panama leaks, Russia is pushing forward with preparations to join an international agreement of tax information exchange and can do this already in May, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday, citing government sources.

More than 70 states will undertake to disclose financial information to partners under the agreement in 2017 and 2018. Russia was listed to join the agreement in 2018, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Angel Gurria said earlier.

But the Russian government will discuss permission to the tax authority to sign documents on joining the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement (CRS MCAA) privately on Thursday, the sources said. The signing will likely take place in May, they said.

There is no more sense for the Russian government to restrict access to tax information after the Panama Leaks because an avalanche of disclosures can follow, Kommersant reported.
